The Curriculum
Three Formats for Following a Structured Reading Programme
A full bootcamp term, a focused workshop, or an annual subscription to the reading library. Each entry point provides a different depth of engagement with the same underlying curriculum.
Back to HomeMethodology
How a Statutus Term Is Organised
Each programme format is built from the same methodological core: a curated reading list, a structured discussion sequence, and written exercises designed to consolidate what participants have read. The depth of engagement differs across formats; the underlying intellectual approach does not.
Faculty do not lecture. Discussion sessions begin from the reading. Participants are expected to arrive prepared, and sessions are designed around that expectation. Written exercises are short, focused, and reviewed — they are not tests, but they are taken seriously.
Timeline

Programme 01
Full Bootcamp Term
A multi-week intensive programme covering a defined topic at the intersection of legal knowledge and adjacent practice. Topics are chosen each term: past examples include knowledge management for the legal industry, contract-architecture literacy for non-lawyers, and governance literacy for in-house operations teams.
The term includes pre-reading materials, faculty-led discussions, written exercises, peer review, and a closing reflection memo. Topics are framed throughout as educational material — not as a substitute for professional legal advice.
- Pre-reading dispatched two weeks before the term begins
- Faculty-led discussion sessions across the term
- Written exercises with peer review
- Closing reflection memo unique to each cohort
- Record of attendance provided on completion
Programme 02
Single Topic Workshop
A two-day workshop drawn from the wider bootcamp curriculum, covering one subject in depth. The format follows the same structure as a compressed term: pre-reading distributed in advance, a faculty-led discussion session, a written exercise, and a structured close.
Suitable for individuals or small organisational groups who want to engage with a focused topic without committing to a full bootcamp term. Each workshop covers a single topic — the topic for each intake is announced at the time of enrolment.
- Two-day in-person format in Sheung Wan, HK
- Pre-reading sent one week before the workshop
- Written exercise included and reviewed
- Open to individuals or small groups
Programme 03
Annual Reader Subscription
Annual access to the bootcamp reading library, the published written exercises from past terms, and the quarterly editorial bulletin. Includes invitations to two open online discussion sessions per year — held for reader subscribers and past participants who want to remain engaged with the curriculum.
This option suits readers who want to follow the curriculum's intellectual content at their own pace, independent of the live bootcamp schedule. It is also a useful continuation for past participants who have completed a term and want sustained access to the reading materials.
- Full reading library: 200+ annotated texts
- Published written exercises from past terms
- Quarterly editorial bulletin
- Invitations to two online discussion sessions per year

Programme Standards
Shared Across All Formats
Privacy and Participant Data
Personal data collected at enrolment is held in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486, HK). Participant names are not shared outside administrative communications.
Education Scope
All programmes are educational in scope. Statutory texts and legal materials are discussed analytically. Nothing in any programme constitutes, implies, or should be understood as legal advice.
Curated Reading Lists
All reading materials are reviewed by faculty before dispatch. Lists are updated between terms. Third-party copyrighted materials are licensed or directed to public-domain sources where appropriate.
Enquiry Response
Programme enquiries are responded to within two business days. Enrolment confirmations are issued within one business day of payment receipt. Administrative questions during a term are handled by email.
Post-Term Review
After each term, faculty conduct a structured review of reading materials, discussion format, and exercise design. Adjustments are made to subsequent terms where the review identifies improvements.
HK Common-Law Grounding
Programme content is developed with Hong Kong's common-law framework as the primary context. Topics touching on cross-jurisdictional material acknowledge those dimensions without departing from the local institutional focus.
