  • "Programme" refers to any of the educational offerings made available by Statutus, including the Full Bootcamp Term, Single Topic Workshop, and Annual Reader Subscription.
  • "Participant" or "you" refers to any individual who submits an enquiry, enrols in a Programme, or accesses reading materials or the Reader Subscription library.
  • "Content" refers to all materials produced or distributed by Statutus, including reading lists, written exercises, discussion notes, editorial bulletins, faculty commentary, and any other materials associated with the Programme.
  • "Agreement" refers to these Terms & Conditions together with any confirmation of enrolment or subscription issued by Statutus.

Section 2

Acceptance of Terms

By submitting an enquiry through our website, confirming enrolment in any Programme, or making payment for a Programme or subscription, you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions and our Privacy Policy.

Participation in any Statutus Programme is open only to individuals aged 18 or over who have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement. By proceeding, you represent that you meet these requirements.

If you are enrolling on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these terms.

Section 3

Service Description

Statutus offers the following continuing education programmes:

  • Full Bootcamp Term — a multi-week structured programme covering one defined topic, comprising pre-reading, faculty-led discussion sessions, written exercises, peer review, and a closing reflection memo (HKD 6,900 per participant).
  • Single Topic Workshop — a two-day programme drawn from the bootcamp curriculum covering one topic, with pre-reading, faculty-led discussion, and a written exercise (HKD 2,200 per participant).
  • Annual Reader Subscription — twelve-month access to the reading library, published exercises archive, and quarterly editorial bulletin, with invitations to two online discussion sessions per year (HKD 790 per year).

Programmes are offered primarily in English and are based in Hong Kong. Sessions may be delivered in person, online, or in a hybrid format at Statutus's discretion. Schedules and formats are confirmed with enrolled participants prior to each term.

Section 4

Enrolment and Access

Enrolment is confirmed when Statutus issues a written confirmation and payment has been received. Placing is subject to availability. Cohort sizes are limited and Statutus reserves the right to decline enrolment at its discretion.

Access to Reader Subscription materials is provided via an online portal. Login credentials are issued to the enrolled subscriber and are personal and non-transferable. Sharing access credentials with others is not permitted.

Pre-reading materials for full terms and workshops are dispatched to enrolled participants in advance of the first session. Participants are expected to complete pre-reading before attending. Failure to complete pre-reading does not entitle a participant to a refund or rescheduled access.

Section 5

Payment Terms

All fees are quoted in Hong Kong Dollars (HKD). Payment details and invoicing arrangements are confirmed at the point of enrolment. Corporate invoicing is available for organisations enrolling multiple participants.

Cancellation and refunds: If a participant cancels more than 14 days before a term or workshop begins, a full refund will be issued less any payment processing fees. Cancellations within 14 days of the start date are not eligible for a refund, but a credit may be applied toward a future term at Statutus's discretion. Reader Subscriptions are non-refundable after access has been provided.

If Statutus cancels or substantially changes a term after enrolment is confirmed, participants will be offered a full refund or a transfer to a future term.

Section 6

Participant Conduct

Participants are expected to engage with the programme in good faith, complete assigned reading and written exercises to a reasonable standard, and treat faculty and fellow participants with professional courtesy.

The following are not permitted:

  • Reproducing, distributing, or publishing programme Content in any form without written permission from Statutus
  • Sharing Reader Subscription access credentials or programme materials with individuals who have not enrolled
  • Recording sessions without prior written consent from Statutus
  • Conduct that disrupts or diminishes the experience of other participants or faculty

Breach of these conduct requirements may result in removal from the programme without refund.

Section 7

Intellectual Property

All Content produced by Statutus — including reading lists, discussion frameworks, written exercise prompts, editorial bulletins, faculty commentary, and programme materials — is the intellectual property of Statutus and is protected under applicable copyright law.

Enrolment grants you a limited, personal, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to access and use programme Content for your own professional learning purposes. This licence does not extend to reproduction, publication, resale, or any commercial use.

Written exercises and reflection memos authored by participants remain the intellectual property of the participant, subject to Statutus's right to use anonymised extracts in programme documentation with prior notice.

Section 8

Disclaimers

The Statutus programme is a continuing education offering. All Content is provided for educational and informational purposes only. Nothing in the programme — including faculty commentary, reading materials, discussion sessions, or written exercises — constitutes legal advice, legal opinion, or professional legal counsel.

Participants are responsible for seeking qualified legal professionals for any matter requiring legal advice. Statutus does not hold itself out as providing regulated legal services.

Programme Content is provided on the basis that individual outcomes and the application of knowledge to specific professional situations will vary. No particular result is attributed to participation in the programme.

Section 9

Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by Hong Kong law, Statutus's total liability to any participant in connection with a Programme shall not exceed the fees paid by that participant for the specific Programme giving rise to the claim.

Statutus is not liable for any indirect, consequential, incidental, or punitive loss or damage arising from participation in the programme, including loss of business opportunity, loss of anticipated savings, or decisions made on the basis of programme Content.

Force majeure: Statutus is not liable for failure or delay in delivering any Programme where such failure or delay arises from circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including natural events, public health restrictions, or disruption to infrastructure.

Section 10

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Statutus and its faculty from any claim, loss, damage, or expense (including reasonable legal costs) arising from your breach of these Terms & Conditions, your conduct during a Programme, or your use of programme Content in a manner that is not permitted under these terms.

Section 11

Termination

Statutus may remove a participant from a Programme and terminate this Agreement at any time where the participant has breached these Terms & Conditions, in which case no refund will be due.

A participant may withdraw from a Programme at any time, subject to the payment and refund terms set out in Section 5.

On termination, access to Reader Subscription materials will cease at the end of the then-current subscription period. Sections covering intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, indemnification, and governing law survive termination.

Section 12

Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms & Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Hong Kong. Both parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong for any dispute arising under or in connection with this Agreement.

In the event of a dispute, the parties will first attempt to resolve the matter through good-faith discussion. If resolution cannot be reached within 30 days, either party may refer the matter to formal proceedings. Nothing in this clause prevents either party from seeking urgent injunctive relief.

Section 13

General Provisions

  • Entire agreement: These Terms & Conditions and the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between the parties regarding participation in a Statutus Programme.
  • Severability: If any provision is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.
  • Waiver: Failure to enforce any provision of these terms is not a waiver of that provision.
  • Assignment: You may not assign your enrolment or any rights under this Agreement without prior written consent from Statutus.

Section 14

Changes to These Terms

Statutus may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. When material changes are made, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where applicable, notify enrolled participants by email.

Continued use of our website or participation in a Programme after changes have been posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
